Teresa Peña is the Cultural Sensitivity Administrator for Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care, the Regional Behavioral Health Authority for Maricopa County. She has worked in the behavioral health services field for nearly 25 years and in the cultural competence field for the past nine years. She has targeted her strong community-based interests and extensive experience to families, children/youth, community mobilization, program development, and evaluation.

Ms. Peña is bilingual and bicultural. She is certified as a healthcare interpreter and a cultural competence trainer for the “Cultural Competence 101: Embracing Diversity” course at the Arizona Department of Health, Division of Behavioral Health Services. She has focused on cultural diversity implementation in the public behavioral health system for the past eight years. In this role, she helps to create culturally responsive environments and compliance with the federally mandated Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Service Standards.
