Dr. Jei Africa is the Director of Behavorial Health and Recovery Services for Marin County in California. Previously, he served as the Director of the Office of Diversity and Equity within the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division of the San Mateo County Health System. Dr. Africa’s lifelong work aims to inextricably connect health policy, leadership, and change management to improve service delivery.

Dr. Africa’s experience is deeply rooted in helping historically underserved communities. He previously served as clinical director at Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse and as manager of Youth Treatment Services at Asian American Recovery Services. As a staunch advocate for equity and social justice, Dr. Africa commits his own time to serving the Filipino and LGBTQ communities by volunteering with the Alliance for Community Empowerment and the Mabuhay Health Clinic. He is also a founding member of the San Mateo County LGBTQ Commission.

Dr. Africa serves as adjunct faculty at the University of Southern California Price School of Public Policy and is a fellow at the California Health Care Foundation Leadership Program. By training, Dr. Africa is a licensed clinical psychologist and a certified addiction treatment counselor. He maintains a consulting and private psychotherapy practice in the Bay Area.
